In Dr. Steve's Own Words

You know how a dental visit can feel like an assembly line? Numbers on a chart, a quick look, a bill you don't quite understand. I'm Dr. Steve Truman, and I built my whole approach around not being that.

It started with my childhood dentist. Going to those visits never felt like something to dread, and that stuck with me: how much it matters when people feel genuinely cared for. It shaped how I went through dental school, how I taught, and how I practice today.

I earned my DDS from the University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco, then spent years practicing around the Bay while training first-year dental students in Dugoni's clinical simulation lab. Teaching humbled me before it sharpened me. Standing in front of brand-new students, you find out fast how much you do on autopilot (they ask why about everything, which is exactly the point), and you have to relearn your own habits well enough to explain and defend them. That precision and patience carries straight into the chair.

Here's what that looks like for you as a patient: I show you what I see, on your own photos and X-rays. We find what caused the problem before we treat it. You'll understand the why, not just the what, and you'll never feel pressured into treatment you don't need. I also pay attention to what your mouth says about the rest of your health, like snoring and sleep apnea. Dentistry is healthcare.

This practice has served San Rafael for decades under Dr. Richard Creaghe, and I'm honored to carry his work forward as D Street Dental Group. Same team, same standard of care, with some new tools and a new name on the door.

Outside the office I'm a husband and a father of three boys. I play tennis, I play music, and I take my faith seriously. The kind of dentist I am is connected to the kind of person I am: show up, do the work, treat people the way I'd want my own family treated.
